🪐 Axion

3D Tactical Game Set in Deep Space

About the Game

Axion is an experimental 3D tactical strategy game set against the backdrop of deep space. Game status is Work In Progress. It is not fully functional yet but rather shows what it will be.
You command a squad of combat units engaged in strategic encounters with enemy forces — where positioning, timing, and tactical decisions determine victory.

The game features a fully software-rendered 3D engine, running on both classic Amigas and modern PowerPC-based systems such as AmigaOS 4.1 and MorphOS.
No hardware acceleration — just raw CPU power and software rendering.

Requirements (Classic Amiga)

  • Experimental 030+fpu version added. Memory requirement reduced to 6mb fast.

  • CPU: Minimum Motorola 68040 / 6MB - low resolution
  • CPU: Motorola 68060 @ 100 MHz or faster
  • RAM: 6 MB free

  • OS: AmigaOS 3.x

Supported Systems

  • AmigaOS 3.x (classic Amiga)

  • AmigaOS 4.1

  • MorphOS

  • WinUAE

Development Plans

A full version of Axion is planned, featuring a 10-mission campaign that will provide at least 10 hours of tactical gameplay.
The estimated development time for this stage is around 6 months.

An additional mission editor is also planned, allowing players to create and share their own custom missions to extend replayability and community content.

Supporters of the project will be able to gain early access to development builds and test features before the full release.

Developer Notes

Axion is a passion project by a developer with game development experience, having previously contributed to commercially released titles.
The project serves as both a technical exploration of what’s possible on Amiga hardware and a tribute to the demoscene spirit — merging classic rendering with modern design ideas.

If you see potential in this project, I would be grateful if you could support it with a payment via PAYPAL as a friend/family payment.

I did a test on my Amiga400T, 060@66MHz, Cybervision 64/3D and Aos 3.2.

Works in 640x480 with 14 fps (when no animations are rendered). Drops to 4 fps when something happens on screen.

So far, it works!

Great news. Not bad. Upcoming update should improve performance a bit

Works great on MorphOs 3.19 and looks really promising to me!

I also tested on Amiga 1200 with ACA1260 and AmigaOs 3.2.

Since the Amiga does not have any GFX card, there no Cgx or P96. Sadly Axion wants to open the cgx library.

You really don't need any cgx functions for such a game.

I suppose that you are rendering into a back buffer in fast memory and afterwards blit it to window/screen.

On cgx systems you can simply use WriteChunkyPixels

from graphics.libary. Chunky to planar will be done if needed

(on aga systems). But the C2P routine of Amiga Os is really

slow, you can use your own one.

If need any help for Amiga native or MorphOs native and

performance optimisations, please contact me. You would really like to help.

Thank you. Maybe I could use your help. I don't have access to a non-extended classic Amiga, hence some of the issues. I'm using WritPixelArray for CGX. For AGA/ECS, I'm using C2P conversion, and it will probably be better in the future, but it's not my priority at the moment. The project needs to be completed. Improvements will be implemented in parallel.

Totally understandable. I can help you in parallel,

if you want. Just drop me a PM

How can I contact you (Discord, Email)?

Simply email me.

Ok, I could not find your email address anywhere?

Updated version with improved c2p for faster rendering. I hope I solved problem reported under Amiga Os4 too.

Amazing, now I can rotate the map with cursors and all works like a charm in AmigaOS4.1FE. Now yes, you can edit the info and write AOS4 compatible.

Looking great so far for a first demo.

Not sure but I think with some optimizations it might be faster on at least Vampire cards (supporting AMMX, all 3 Pipes).

like the look of this 🙌

Nice concept, looking forward to it!😍

If you want to add Support for WarpOS (maybe interesting now that PiStorm gets WarpOS) and AROS feel free to contact me at tirionareonwe@gmail.com (I am more The AmigaOS 4 guy but still support all Amigaoid Systems).

Looks very nice btw. Remonds me of Freespace which I ported to AmigaOS back then…

I'll back to you in near future for further detyails.

Tested on AmigaOS4.1FE in real machine Pegasos-II G4 1Ghz+ Radeon9200 and it works.

Great news! How the performance ? Any serious issues troubles etc ?

runs 640x480 with a good framerate. 29 fps when ships are moving, 19fps in 1024x768, 15fps in 1280x1024, its playlable. But there're a bug, when I press cursor keys for rotate the map, it crashes
